National Grange Urges Congress to Support Farm Bill Conference Committee Report

(Washington, DC)- The National Grange, the nation’s oldest agricultural and rural community organization, recently wrote to the U. S. Representatives urging their support for HR 2419, the Farm Bill Conference Report.

The Farm Bill Conference Report, housed in HR 2419, makes significant farm policy reforms, protects the safety net for all of America’s food producers, addresses important infrastructure needs for specialty crops, increases funding to feed our nation’s poor, and enhances support for important conservation initiatives.

Ed Luttrell, National Grange President stated, “Urban, suburban, and rural communities across the nation have been waiting a long time for a new national Farm Bill. HR 2419 is a carefully balanced compromise of policy priorities that has National Grange support along with many other organizations representing the nation’s agriculture, conservation, and nutrition interests.”

National Grange applauds the strong bipartisan leadership demonstrated in Congress to authorize and approve a strong new five-year Farm Bill.  Luttrell concluded, “Sound policy and long-term certainty are absolutely essential to everyone served by the Farm Bill, and the final Conference Report provides both.”

The National Grange is the nation’s oldest agricultural and rural community organization, and has evolved to incorporate the interests of non-farm rural families and communities, as well as the traditional interests of family farmers and ranchers. It has nearly 3,000 state, local, and grassroots chapters across 40 states. Additional information about the organization’s positions is available at: www.nationalgrange.org.
